Description This short solo piece (Night-time in Carcavelos) is a transcription of Praia Mar, Op. 25 for cor anglais, which was originally composed in October 2000, in Carcavelos, near Lisbon, Portugal. The title alludes to the fact that it was written in the small hours, on a hotel balcony overlooking the Adriatic Ocean. It was composed for a performance at the Royal Palace, Sintra. Constructed as a quasi-rondo (A B A1 C B1 Coda), this moto perpetuo, tonal piece has a lilting swing, with jazz-flavoured syncopation, which exploits the whole range of the instrument.
